Overview

The Mentions Inbox gives you a centralized view of every time someone mentions your brand on Instagram. Whether they tag you in a caption, mention you in a comment, or tag you in a photo, Blueberry captures it all so you never miss an opportunity to engage.
Mentions are tracked across Instagram posts and comments. This includes both personal accounts and business accounts that mention your connected channels.

Types of Mentions

Blueberry tracks three types of mentions:

Caption Mentions

When someone @mentions your brand in their post caption.

Comment Mentions

When someone @mentions your brand in a comment on any post.

Photo Tags

When someone tags your brand in their photo or video content.
What it means: Someone created a post and included your @username in the caption.Example: A customer posts a photo of your product with the caption “Loving my new purchase from @yourbrand! 🎉”Actions available:
  • Reply to the post as a comment
  • Skip (mark as handled without responding)
Caption mentions are great opportunities to thank customers publicly and build community.
What it means: Someone mentioned your @username in a comment on someone else’s post (or their own).Example: A user comments “@yourbrand do you have this in blue?” on an influencer’s post featuring your product.Actions available:
  • Reply to the comment
  • Skip (mark as handled without responding)
Comment mentions often contain product questions or purchase intent. Responding quickly can drive conversions.
What it means: Someone tagged your brand in a photo or video, making you appear in the post.Example: A customer posts a photo and uses Instagram’s tag feature to tag your brand directly in the image.Actions available:
  • Mark as Read (acknowledge the tag)
Photo tags cannot be replied to directly like comments. Use “Mark as Read” to track that you’ve seen the tag.

Responding to Mentions

When someone mentions you in their post caption, you can leave a public comment on their post.

Click the Reply link below the caption text

Write Your Response

Blueberry may suggest a response based on your brand voice. Edit or write your own reply in the text box.

Send Reply

Click Send Reply to post your comment on their post
Your reply will appear as a comment from your brand on the original post.
When someone mentions you in a comment, you can reply directly to their comment.

Click the Reply link below the commenter’s text

Write Your Response

Craft your response in the text box. You can use emojis via the emoji picker.

Send Reply

Click Send Reply to post your response as a reply to their comment
Comment mention replies create a threaded conversation, making it easy for others to follow the exchange.
Photo tags are acknowledgments that someone featured your brand in their content. Since you can’t reply directly to a tag, use Mark as Read to track it.

Review the Post

View the post where you were tagged

Click Mark as Read

Click Mark as Read to acknowledge the tag and move it to Done
Photo tags are great for discovering user-generated content (UGC) to potentially reshare or engage with via DM.

Bulk Actions

Handle multiple mentions at once for faster inbox management.

Check the boxes next to the mentions you want to act on

View Selection Count

The bulk action bar shows “X of Y selected”

Skip Selected

Click Skip Selected (for caption/comment mentions) or Mark selected as Read (for tags) to handle all at once
Use the type filters first to batch similar mentions together, then apply bulk actions.

Post Stats & Refresh

Each mention card shows engagement stats from the original post:
  • Likes - Number of likes on the post
  • Comments - Number of comments on the post
Click the refresh icon in the post header to fetch the latest stats from Instagram.

Quick FAQ

Mentions typically appear in your inbox within seconds to a few minutes after they’re posted on Instagram.Blueberry receives real-time webhooks from Meta when your brand is mentioned.
If you reply directly on Instagram (outside of Blueberry), the mention will remain in your Pending tab until you manually skip it.
For the best experience, respond to mentions through Blueberry so they’re automatically tracked as handled.
Instagram doesn’t support replying directly to photo tags through the API. Click the external link icon to open the post directly on Instagram, where you can leave a comment or send a DM to thank the person for tagging you.Use Mark as Read to track that you’ve seen the tag.
Click the external link icon in the top-right corner of any mention card to open the original post directly on the social platform.
If you encounter an invalid link error, try clicking the refresh icon on the mention card to fetch the latest data. The post may have been deleted or the link may have changed.
